Free and vital online training on digital self care, safety and security for women currently in or aspiring to be in politics.
About this Event
Who's this training workshop for?
Are you a woman involved in grassroots campaigns or a woman with political ambitions yet the fear of online abuse is preventing you from taking the next step forward? Is the toxicity on social media yet another barrier for you to take your rightful space? Are you a woman needing support to set boundaries and make digital spaces better serve you and your career ambitions? Then this one hour free online workshop is for you!
About this training workshop
Sadly, evidence shows that politically active women are more likely to be harassed online, and this is even worse for women of colour, disabled and LGBT+ communities. The fear of online harassment is causing an exodus of women to leave and not be able to take up their rightful space both online and in democracy. Alongside campaigning for both government and tech to implement systematic change we at Glitch are passionate about equipping women, as digital citizens, to flourish online safely through our training workshops.
In 2019, 100% of our workshop participants reported gaining skills to be safer and resilient online compared to just 18% before the training. 93% left feeling safer expressing themselves online and 85% reported improved confidence levels using social media.
Thanks to the Equal Power Coalition we can deliver our tailored interactive workshops for politically active women for free! We want to help women of all ages, backgrounds and political affiliations to overcome the barrier of online abuse, feel more confident to use online platforms in order to pursue a successful career in public life. In this one hour interactive session you will learn:
What online abuse and its manifestations
Vital digital self defence techniques and strategies, including how to effectively document abuse
How to create your very own digital self care plan that enables you to have a flourishing online presence without compromising your wellbeing
You’ll come away with practical tools and increased control over your online presence, resulting in a happier, healthier relationship with the digital space.
Glitch helped to bolster the security of my personal online presences before engaging with national media; public figures undergo tougher scrutiny of their past online behaviours once they appear in national press or television – including any online activity from one’s youth, - New Councillor, 2018
As online abuse is an issue that disproportionately affects womxn and non- binary people with multi-intersecting identities, Glitch would like to extend a particularly warm welcome to individuals from these groups.
